Lyrics: Under the great north star Try to work out where you are In the silence of the sea I don’t know where I’ve been In the future, in the past Going nowhere much too fast When I go there go with me When I go there go with me ‘Cause I don’t know where I’m going but I wanna talk I feel like I’m going where I’ve been before And I wanna talk Take a picture of Something that you’re not sure of Bring it back to show me But I don’t know what I see In the future, find a home Getting nowhere on your own Got to find your missing piece ‘Cause you don’t know where you’re going but you wanna talk You feel like you’re going where you’ve been before And nothing’s really making any sense at all You’ll tell any one who’ll listen that you feel ignored Let’s talk, let’s talk Do you wanna talk? I’m up in the part of the throne I’m trying to sing a song In a language I don’t speak I try but I can’t get through I’m trying to get to you But you’re difficult to reach Won’t you talk to me… So you don’t know where you’re going but you wanna talk You feel like you’re going where you’ve been before Let’s talk, let’s talk… Let’s talk, let’s talk… EDIT 1: 3/15/09 Lyrics added through annotations.

Thomas Paine brings the revolution back to England – an alternate history

August 26th, 2011 Posted in Alternative Tags: , , , , , , ,

On September 15, 1792 at the Port of Dover in Kent, republican intellectual Thomas Paine was arrested on charges of seditious libel.

Paine had been charged with “inflammatory eloquence” at a gathering of the “Friends of Liberty” on September 12th. As he rose to leave, William Blake laid his hand on the orator’s shoulder, saying, “You must not go home, or you are a dead man”.

Paine planned to flee the country along with his companions Frost and Audibert. However, they never made it to France because the collector of customs had received general instructions to be vigilant, and searched the three men, even to their pockets. Whereupon sealed letters were discovered, given into Paine’s charge by the American minister in London, Charles Cotesworth Pinckney. One letter was addressed to the American minister at Paris, the other to a private gentleman; a letter from the president of the United States, and a letter from the secretary of State in America. Whilst his friends attempted to intercede on his behalf, Paine’s warrant arrived and he was put under arrest. Had he arrived just twenty minutes earlier, Paine would most likely have missed the order and made it to Revolutionary France.

On 18th December Paine was charged at The Guildhall, London, that he “being a person of a wicked, malicious and seditious disposition” etc “did publish that the crown of this kingdom was contrary to the rights of the inhabitants” and so forth. The Attorney-General, who prosecuted, said that he would not read out the many “false, wicked and scandalous assertions” but would read only a few more, such as “to inherit a crown is to inherit the people, as if they were flocks and herds”. The famous Thomas Erskine defended Paine but the carefully selected jury, which received two guineas each and a free dinner for a conviction and nothing otherwise, decided to return a verdict of guilty. Paine was hung, and laws were soon passed to restrict free speech and publication. Almost inevitably, martyrdom transformed Paine into a rallying point for English revolutionaries. And so after his death, his revolutionary agenda would overthrow the British monarchy.

During the 1960s, Socialist Prime Minister Tony Benn would often refer to Paine’s punchy political language and his inspirational quest for accountable government, presenting copies of Common Sense, Rights of Man and The Age of Reason to the Heads of State from Developing Nations.

Some of the best alternative rock bands/songs that I listen to. Alternative Rock, Alternative Metal, Post-grunge. Songs are from early 90s onwards. Note that I didn’t include grunge bands in this list. Grunge, a sub-genre of alternative rock has a special place in my heart. :-) Then I forgot to include Britpop bands, maybe on my next list. Some of the bands I forgot are Weezer, Radiohead, and Evanescence. Completed making the movie in less than a day. Annotations soon. You Can’t Kill HEAVY METAL. You Can’t Kill ALTERNATIVE ROCK.

Diabetics should look after their feet ( Alternative Medicine )

It is confirmed that the health of diabetic patient’s feet is very important and any injury or bruise, the size of a spot may cause problems right down to the bone and cause gangrene, so diabetics should take care of their feet from shoes to socks and nails to heels. Experts stated at a press conference that for diabetics the most vulnerable organ is their feet. The feet are the organs which are most exposed so when the flow of blood slows at the feet they start to lose sensitivity. An expert claims that even a little bruise might leave the feet more vulnerable to future injuries so diabetics should protect their feet:

”Your feet should be washed every night with warm water, be dried thoroughly and moisturised. After sports and walking, the underside of the feet should be checked with a mirror to ensure there are no bruises. Socks musn’t be too big or too small, musn’t be scrunched up or torn. Shoes should be made from soft leather, with smooth inside and not pointed or tapered at the front. Toe nails should be cut short. Nails should be cut straight across, not rounded.” ( Alternative Medicine )

Experts warn that if diabetic people don’t take these warnings seriously and don’t follow these guidelines they may lose their feet or legs, “treatment is too difficult and lengthy. If injuries don’t heal properly, even a little bruise the size of a spot can reach the bone and become gangrene and can cause loss of toes or whole feet.”

Alternative Healing Chinese Medicine And Herbal Remedies Back To The Plants

May 21st, 2010 Posted in Alternative Tags: , , , , , , ,

The basis behind alternative herbal remedies is to combine a series of herbs in order to bring about the desired effect.  Commonly, there will be a formula of four herbs used in combination and harmony with each other.  This is done in order to treat secondary illnesses that may have been affected by the primary illness.  This also helps to balance and strengthen the body while it is healing.

As Chinese medicine begins to divide the various natural herbal remedies, they will do so by a hierarchy.  On the top of this hierarchy is the emperor herb.  This will be used to cure the major illness that is taking place.  Beneath this is the ‘ministers’ of the alternative herbal remedy.  This is used to treat any secondary illnesses that are taking place.  After this, herbal ‘assistants’ will be used to support the other two herbs.  The last set of herbs will be the messenger herbs, which will tell the primary and secondary herbs where to go and how much of an effect to take on the body.

Other alternative herbal remedies that are placed together after this, will be divided by the specific symptoms that are being seen.  Just like all other parts of alternative Chinese medicine, these will first be found through the five elements and how they relate to the body.  For example, some herbs will be spicy in order to relate to areas of the body that need this extra element to begin better flow of Qi.

The last part of alternative herbal medicine from ancient Chinese natural remedies, is to determine the type of energy that is needed by a person.  Generally this is found by diagnosis and examining the Qi that is in a person.  Following this, a specific mixture of these four hierarchies will be mixed together, in order to help change the energy flow that is in someone.

From examining the Qi and finding respective remedies through natural herbs, one is able to find the best solutions using a holistic method.  This alternative healing allows one to benefit from the use of Chinese medicine and natural herbs in order to fight off an illness or block of energy in their system.
